[Bug 336250] New: Realtek 8168 Gigabit Ethernet chipset causing major system problems
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=336250 Summary: Realtek 8168 Gigabit Ethernet chipset causing major system problems Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: malv_star@hotmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- The realtek 8168 gigabit ethernet chipset appears to be causing a wide variety of system problems for many people. I have tested several machines with different motherboards, both AMD and Intel-based, all using this chipset for networking. Several of them frequently lock up. Others suffer from reduced outgoing transfer rates. There are related bugs for this one (not created by me) since I could not cover all the details in a single bug-report: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=327510 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=328086 Some example behaviour: System 1: All outgoing data requested by incoming connections is limited to around 50KB/s (Samba, VNC, FTP and so on). Installing the official Realtek r8168 driver DID solve this problem. System 2: Frequent system lockups when the network connection is active. Occasionally the NIC fails to start at all (no physical link light). Installing the official Realtek r8168 driver DID NOT solve this problem. I am not sure what is causing this issue given the wide variety of symptoms, but clearly this particular chipset is causing severe issues. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
