[Bug 396944] New: installer failed to auto-detect correct LCD screen and resolution
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=396944 Summary: installer failed to auto-detect correct LCD screen and resolution Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: RC 1 Platform: 32bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: sativagarden@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I did a fresh install of 11RC1 on my notebook. It failed to correctly detect my 15.4" LCD monitor 1680 X 1050 resolution. Instead of LG monitor (I can provide the exact monitor details in a subsequent post) it detected an LCD monitor of resolution 800 X 600 and 10" size! I've also got intel pro wireless 3945 device. It was configured correctly, but I have three networking applets in my taskbar. 1. Knetwork manager (greenish Earth/globe) 2. Knetwork manager (which box with smallish red X, present on suse 10.3) 3. Knetwork manager (blue bars, from small to large [when connected to WAP]) Is this normal? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Since making the bug report, i went to yast>sax2 and manually selected "lcd 1680X1050 60Hz" monitor, 15.4 inch size, and 1680X1050 resolution. Below are the requested files 'after' the changes made.
So this resolution works now, right? It seems so. Please add the output of 'xrandr'.
I was _not_ plugging in an external TFT monitor to my laptop.
So you were talking about your internal laptop display. I need to know such details. It sounded different. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

26: None 00.0: 10000 Monitor [Created at fb.71] Unique ID: rdCR.EY_qmtb9YY0 Hardware Class: monitor Model: "Generic Monitor" Vendor: "Generic" Device: "Monitor" Resolution: 1280x1024@77Hz Driver Info #0: Max. Resolution: 1280x1024 Vert. Sync Range: 50-90 Hz Hor. Sync Range: 31-82 kHz Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown
This means, that no monitor has been detected, but it is assumed that the monitor can display the current framebuffer mode of 1280x1024. If you've installed in a 800x600 mode or even text mode you would see in the output 'Resolution: 800x600'.
I tried to change it, but could not find the original name of monitor that 10.3 detected. I think it was either 'phillips' or 'lg'. Hope this helps. Need more info?
Chose 1680x1050 as resolution and "LCD 1680x1050@60" as monitor during installation and you're fine or if you're using automatic configuration - wich you don't and which is good - run sax2/Yast afterwards to change these settings. I'm sorry, but we cannot detect each and every internal display / Monitor. ==> WONTFIX -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
