[Bug 217564] New: no battery present after suspending WITHOUT battery on AC & resuming WITH bat w/o AC
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=217564 Summary: no battery present after suspending WITHOUT battery on AC & resuming WITH bat w/o AC Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: danielstefanmader@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de When working with a laptop (Centrino Pentium M 1400) with AC adapter plugged in and without battery present, then suspending it to disk and then resuming it WITHOUT AC present but a BATTERY, the battery is not recognized by the powermanagement system: /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1: present: no Let me add that this bug has been fixed many many times since SUSE 9.1 but reappeared again with the next kernel update. And was fixed again for the next release or update kernel. And reappeared again... Either there seems to be an issue with quality control or the SUSE kernel is just so heavily patched that it is unavoidable that certain bugs will never be wiped out since they do not affect the vanilla kernel but only the SUSE one... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=217564 ------- Comment #2 from danielstefanmader@web.de 2006-11-29 09:12 MST ------- Sorry, I have no longer 10.2 RC or Beta available, only 10.1 Remastered. Does it make sense to test the above kernel on 10.1 instead? In case the patch fixes the problem, could it be included in SUSE kernel, too, so that it is included in the GM kernel? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=217564 ------- Comment #3 from jeffm@novell.com 2006-11-29 09:17 MST ------- It should work to test it on a 10.1 install. I've already applied it to our CVS, so it should be part of the release kernel. Please let me know if it fixes the problem for you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=217564 ------- Comment #5 from danielstefanmader@web.de 2006-11-29 15:33 MST ------- BTW: the behavior is also very present on the latest official kernel kernel-default-2.6.16.21-0.25 on SUSE 10.1. If the patch fixes this it might be very nice to include it into the next kernel-update of 10.1, too. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=217564 ------- Comment #6 from danielstefanmader@web.de 2006-12-10 15:00 MST ------- Hello, just want to inform you that the issue is still present with openSUSE 10.2 Final (GM). So either the patch is not included or it did not resolve the issue. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=217564 ------- Comment #8 from danielstefanmader@web.de 2006-12-15 02:24 MST ------- Yes, I won't :) since working on a laptop without AC and without an idea of how long the battery will still last is not comforting. But again: it has worked already in the past. Once, a workaround was to reload the acpi daemon but unfortunately this is no longer enough. I'd be happy if you could give me a hint of that is needed to make the battery and the current power scheme known to the system again. Thank you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
