Summary: several startup scripts attempt to interpret text files
in root
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: Final
Platform: i686
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Minor
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Basesystem
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com
ReportedBy: webclark@rochester.rr.com
QAContact: qa@suse.de
OS: is OpenSuse 10.2. I could not find anything appropriate on the OS
pulldown.
I "cp /var/log/boot.msg /t"
When I shut down, several (3?) times something tried to interpret it, resulting
in a huge number of error messages (mostly if not exclusively modprobe).
When the machine booted, several (4 or 5?) things tried to interpret the file
again, resulting in about 700 error messages each!
I have to assume that this is the result of a bug, since I have left text files
laying around in the root on many flavors of UNIX and Linux, for many years,
with no problems, the most recent other system being Suse 9.2.
It doesn't seem right that startup scripts would pick up random files anyway.
To demonstrate the problem, I cut down the offending file to 4 lines so that
the output was manageable.
Attached is the offending /t file contents, a fragment of /messages through a
shutdown and reboot, and boot.msg
If this is intentional, a pointer to an explanation or a couple sentences would
be appreciated.
Thanks.
