I'll add the following paragraph to the upcoming php security advisory to warn others about that pitfall:
Note that due to the version upgrade on 10.2 some defaults in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini changed. Especially the change of the default value of the 'short_open_tag' setting could cause problems with some applications. Please check that setting if you run into problems.
