[Bug 219117] New: multisync/opensync seems to be broken
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219117 Summary: multisync/opensync seems to be broken Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sbrabec@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I have not find any application with GUI for mobile phone synchronization. In beta1plus, there was multisync0.90 with GUI, but nothing than file and evo modules were working: opening irmc-sync plugin Unable to find MSyncPlugin (irmc-sync)!!! Now there is: - multisync-gui: ugly GUI (e. g. IRMC is configured by editing XML), no support for hacks required for proper sync, and finally at least IRMC<->Evolution will never complete with my SE T630. - multisync: never completes device searching, after manual entering of device, everything seems to be OK, but no contacts will appear in Evolution. I am not able to use Backup plugin. - all other interfaces are command line only Note: multisync was working (with charset bug) in 10.1. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219117 ------- Comment #1 from cstender@novell.com 2006-11-08 11:28 MST ------- - Multisync0.90 was replaced by multisync-0.91.0 (command: multisync-gui). There is now a default config editor, which will be replaced by configuration dialogs soon (not for 10.2). Which hacks do you mean? - You are talking about the old multisync which never complete scans? - Please also note: e46:~ # head -n5 /usr/share/doc/packages/libopensync-plugin-irmc/README Notes: ------ - Syncronisation of notes doesn't work with newer Sony Ericsson cell phones. If your phone is crashing or if you receive an error like "Request failed" please try "--filter-objtype note". Because of this issues we added support for filtering object types to multisync-gui and kitchensync. This is still buggy and we'are currently working on it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219117 ------- Comment #2 from dgollub@novell.com 2006-11-08 13:57 MST ------- multisync 0.82 packages for openSUSE 10.2 will be still available on the ftp server: [ ] multisync-0.82+cvs-45.i586.rpm [ ] multisync-backup-0.82+cvs-45.i586.rpm [ ] multisync-evolution-0.82+cvs-45.i586.rpm [ ] multisync-gui-0.90.19-13.i586.rpm [ ] multisync-irmc-0.82+cvs-45.i586.rpm [ ] multisync-irmc-bluetooth-0.82+cvs-45.i586.rpm [ ] multisync-kdepim-0.82+cvs-45.i586.rpm [ ] multisync-ldap-0.82+cvs-45.i586.rpm [ ] multisync-opie-0.82+cvs-45.i586.rpm [ ] multisync-syncml-0.82+cvs-45.i586.rpm Stanislav - Thanks for your feedback about the current state of the GTK OpenSync frontend. The Multisync0.90 branch got dropped upstream, so we decided to switch to the new released version Multisync0.91 which is a complete rewrite/new branch. We will try to improve the configure dialog of the new version ASAP. "no support for hacks required for proper sync" - OpenSync is intended to get rid of those "features". We also fixed many known problems of buggy mobile phones which violate against the IrMC Specification or vcal/vcard Spec. For the IrMC Sync of OpenSync are no hacks required. Christopher has done a great job and fixed nearly every issue. We received success reports from people, who using IrMC mobile phones with UTF-7, UTF-8 and other ISO8859-X... so let us now if you still have problems with the conversion of your charset. Regarding bug 217073 - i don't see any relation of OpenSync/Multisync with a broken bluez DBus API test script - or missing passkey agent. Like Christopher, i can only recommend to use kitchensync in the meantime. Or multisync 0.82 - which is not maintained upstream anymore and will get dropped in further releases. And don't forget to disable the synchronization of notes - there is a (known) bug on your mobile phone. Thanks for testing! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219117 ------- Comment #3 from sbrabec@novell.com 2006-11-09 04:32 MST ------- Yes, as "hacks" I meant IrMC -> Options (Calendar options, Phonebook options, Bug workarounds). I will try the latest version. Bug 217073 is not related, but breaks chance to use Bluetooth by beginners. In 10.1 and T630 it was not possible to make it working correctly. SE T630 sends some records as correctly marked UTF-7, other strings are send as QUOTED-PRINTABLE without any charset info. T630 sends quoted-printable ISO-8859-1, Multisync expects quoted-printable UTF-8. I hope it was fixed in the new branch. I already encountered bug in T630 firmware by obexftp. I guess I have to hard reboot my phone. It seems, that notes in T630 are accepted only if they are shorter than an unknown limit. Shorter notes are visible without off/on only if the phone is not in the notes menu, longer notes are invisible and undeletable. The bad thing is, that "obexftp -b 00:0F:DE:CE:96:D2 -g telecom/note.vnt" and similar commands now hangs. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Stanislav, did you test OpenSync in Beta2+? Did the sync finish if you deactivate 'Notes'? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219117 ------- Comment #5 from sbrabec@novell.com 2006-11-22 10:45 MST ------- I have tested Beta2+ with pre-RC1 versions of selected packages. It seems to work with some exceptions, which should be probably moved to upstream. Then I guess we can close this report. Long reply: Tested and works correctly: - If bluetooth-applet is running, then there are no problems with association. - Opensync in Beta2+ finishes, if I will disable Notes. - Encoding is correct in all situations. Tested and does not work correctly: - It synces mails from T630 to Evolution as "anybody@example.com ((null))" - It totally mixes phone type, probably depending on existing entries. E. g. if work phone is missing, phone Home phone is synced as evo Work. If all phones are filled, phone Other phone is synced as evo Other fax etc. - Time zone hack is missing. It seems that T630 ignores event time zone while syncing. But internally it saves events in zone independent format (After move to the different time zone it correctly displays all events in the new local time.) So it would be better to recompute all events to local time before transfer. - It hangs Evolution. Filled as separate bug 223285 - IRMC is still configured by editing of XML. Tested and enhancement would be welcome: - Very welcome would be Evolution module option 'Use "File as" instead of "Name"'. For evo -> phone it will use "File as" instead of "Name", for phone -> evo it will keep "Name" unchanged, if it is different than "File as" and was not changed since last sync. - After phone cold reboot I will retest notes and report to you, whether there is possible to sync notes with some limits. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=219117 ------- Comment #8 from sbrabec@novell.com 2006-12-19 07:51 MST ------- Additional info on T630 notes bug: - opexftp -p telecom/note.vnt completes - does not work in sync mode (most probably phone bug) - opexftp -g telecom/note.vnt never completes (phone bug) - if note is longer than 256 characters, it is accepted by phone and saved but not displayed. Memory and item are permanently lost. (phone bug) It implies, that probably only limited manual note sync is possible with this phone. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
