[Bug 817552] New: resume from suspend sometimes fails with radeon driver
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=817552 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=817552#c0 Summary: resume from suspend sometimes fails with radeon driver Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: colAflash@gmx.net QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 I got a bug which is very similar to those: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54133 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=883536 http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2013-04/msg00369.html and maybe related to these: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=799117 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804649 BUT it's not the same as these, because my problem appears when coming from suspend2ram (standby) like in the bugs from FreeDesktop, RedHat and the openSUSE mailinglist (see above). And I haven't seen any problems when switching from console to X-Server (like reported in 799117 804649). But it's the same stuff in /var/log/messages (see below). Description: My pc CPU: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor (4 cores) GPU: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880 [Radeon HD 4200] OS: openSUSE 12.3 x86_64 Desktop: KDE Putting my pc into suspend2ram (standby) works, but when waking it up SOMETIMES (specially after long time in suspend) my screen stays black and the monitor led's are flashing every few seconds. I also switched to http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_12.3/ and it currently also looks like this solved the problem for me too. But I'm not completely sure, because the bug didn't appeared always. So I'll have to wait a few more days and sleep/wakeup cycles to be sure it's gone.
How did you install it from that repository? Did you break the dependency in order to install it? I get: # zypper in http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_12.3/x86_64/xf8... Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies... Problem: nothing provides X11_ABI_VIDEODRV = 14.1 needed by xf86-video-ati-7.1.0-30.4.x86_64 Solution 1: do not install xf86-video-ati-7.1.0-30.4.x86_64 Solution 2: break xf86-video-ati-7.1.0-30.4.x86_64 by ignoring some of its dependencies Choose from above solutions by number or cancel [1/2/c] (c): -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I used Yast, I checked the option in yast to allow vendor changes, (even though its simply a different repository on the same vendor.)
It did not require me to override any dependencies. In my system the above mentioned X11_ABI_VIDEODRV = 14.1 is supplied by xorg-x11-server version 7.6_1.14.1231.4 which comes from the same repository.
Since Yast automatically selects all necessary required packages, there was no issue.
I'm not sure, but I think the way you issued that command tells it to only get that single package from that repository rather than putting that repository in your list of valid repositories.
The reason I'm updating only one package is because there 37 packages that are getting selected for upgraded including xorg-x11-server. I was trying to keep the changes to the system to a minimal. But after updating only xf86-video-ati, I'm seeing some other issues with CPU usage of X server. Updating all other 36 packages now. Did the Mesa-9.0.2-34.16.1 update, released on 6th June 2013 on http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.3/ fix this?
No, this has been a security update. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ok I tried to update the xf86-video-ati driver to the version of the X11:XOrg repository and also libdrm2 made vendor change.
After 4 short sleeps no problem it seems to work. I will report back after a longer sleep.
Ok updating the free Radeon driver solved it seems so no problems after sleep. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
