Closing the lid. Check /etc/systemd/logind.conf One should have HandleLidSwitch=suspend uncommented there, and restart systemd-logind.service to see does that work. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

it looks like lid switch events aren't reaching systemd-logind. Are you sure this is working properly at all ? One way to test it is to open a VT, logged as root, and run "cat /dev/input/event2" (if event2 is binded to lid switch) and close and open the lid. If you see some characters printed on the screen, it works..
event2 didn't show anything, but event1 did show lots of random characters. I am a distro-hopper and this works in all other distributions I have (currently Korora, Netrunner, and Mageia) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

First, brightness control should be reported to a separate bug (systemd / logind is not involved at all).
let's restart the debugging (sorry, I might ask again some stuff you already provided).
Could you boot in runlevel 3 and from a text console, you just close the lid of your laptop and check if it suspend or not ?
Not suspend in runlevel 3 - no reaction at all on closing the lid.
(please make sure in /etc/systemd/logind.conf that HandleLidSwitch and LidSwitchIgnoreInhibited lines are commented with #)
please, also give the output of "systemd-inhibit --list".

No characters at all when closing the lid at event2 nor event1. The lid swich is working since the laptop turns off the screen backlight properly on lid closing. I have previously installed OpenSuse 12.2 and the lid made the computer go to sleep properly. The problem started after fresh install (no upgrade) of OS 12.3 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
