[Bug 890114] New: OpenSuse 13.1 does not suspend on ThinkPad S540 after kernel update
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890114 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=890114#c0 Summary: OpenSuse 13.1 does not suspend on ThinkPad S540 after kernel update Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: info@scito.ch QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 After the kernel update with kernel-desktop-3.11.10-17.2.x86_64.rpm (installed at 2014-06-25), the suspend to RAM of my Lenovo S540 (20B3-0064MZ) did not work anymore. Kernel hangs during suspend and everything is block, e.g. Alt-Ctrl-F1 is not working anymore. Before it worked with kernel-desktop-3.11.10-11.1.x86_64.rpm without any problem and out-of-the-box. I analyzed the problem with https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/power/basic-pm-debugging.txt. In my case, it are the sound drivers, it seems to be the snd_hwdep driver. # modprobe -r snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep # echo devices > /sys/power/pm_test # echo mem > /sys/power/state works. # modprobe -r snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec # echo devices > /sys/power/pm_test # echo mem > /sys/power/state does not work. Unfortunately, adding snd_hwdep to SUSPEND_MODULES does not work. The module cannot be unloaded, since it is used: FATAL: Module XY is in use. I've found a workaround. I unload the modules directly after startup with modprobe -r snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep in /etc/init.d/after.local, then suspend works again without any problems. Obviously, after unloading sound drivers, sound is not working anymore, but suspend is much more important to me. Reproducible: Always Actual Results: The kernel hangs/crashes/blocks/freezes during suspend. The computer has to be stopped with the hardware button. Expected Results: Suspend and resume are working. The bug report https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=877171 may be same the problem. Since I am not sure I created a new report. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, judging from the boot log, actually you're using AMD graphics, not Intel.
I was not aware of this. Thanks for the hint.
But, you can try to switch in BIOS, of course, if you don't need the high-performance rendering.
Not possible, I'll wait for openSUSE 13.2 and I'll look into this issue. I assume Kernel support of radeon and hybrid graphics should be better.
In anyway, the kernel Oops must have been fixed now. Feel free to reopen if the problem is seen with the later update kernel (or KOTD).
Many thanks for the fast reaction! If something isn't working as expected I'll let you know. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
