http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=597613 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=597613#c0 Summary: resume from hibernate takes > 10 min on Dell Studio 1737 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vkrevs@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=355166) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=355166) /var/log/messages after resume from suspend User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.9 Safari/533.4 Sometimes it takes a very long time for my notebook to become resposive after resume from suspend to disk (every 3-4 suspend/resume cycles). The system resumes, goes back to KDE, but does not respond to keyboard for 5-10 minutes. If I leave konsole running with iotop before suspend, then after resume iotop shows random processes being constantly swapped out and swapped in during resume from suspend to disk. Can you reproduce the problem with the ATI/Catalyst drivers removed from the system, using just vesa? Aka if it's an issue related to ATI/Catalyst we are not going to be able to fix it.
According to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/391628 this problem does not occur with the OpenSource radeonhd driver. Thus it is probably nothing Novell (or Ubuntu) can do anything about. As I wrote on the launchpad site: "But it might help if everyone report it to http://www.amd.com/us/LinuxCrewSurvey and to the manufacturer of their notebook (Dell, HP, ..) I have done both a long time ago. So far it hasn't helped but may be they address this issue if enough people complain." -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I cannot switch to vesa, as it makes my notebook unusable. Switching to the opensource ati driver exposes too many bugs in the driver, resulting in a system that is not as stable as the one with the binary ATI driver.
If it is an issue with the binary ATI driver, then please work with AMD, and help them make their driver better instead of just telling everyone it is not your problem.
I wasn't suggesting you permanently switch. Just temporarily to determine whether the issue is in the ATI driver or not. If you don't wish to do this, then based on comment #13 we will have to close this bug as we cannot fix bugs caused by closed-source drivers. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
