[Bug 722357] New: IBFT boot to sles 11, IBFT boot code's EBDA got overwritten once the kernel runs
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=722357 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=722357#c0 Summary: IBFT boot to sles 11, IBFT boot code's EBDA got overwritten once the kernel runs Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ying.lok@qlogic.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; MS-RTC LM 8; InfoPath.2; NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729) Have an IBFT boot setup for sles 11 2.6.32.12-0.7-default using Dell server via qlogic CNA, target is EqualLogic PS6500E. System hang with blank screen and also with NMI error. We analyzed the issue and found that the boot process is good even up to the grub stage 2. But as soon as the kernel runs, the EBDA used by the boot code seems to be corrupted, thus resulting NMI/PCI error from the subsequent dma access. Using another kernel 2.6.32-71 works fine and no EBDA got corrupted. EBDA is used by the boot code to store the tx and rx descriptor for used by the adapter fw for dma operation and is assumed to not be changed once boot code is running. Since this is in the linux init code, need help to identify potential issue.
