kiwi still thinks there is a yast2 firstboot service. Thus it is not activated on boot because the service is gone. There is also no documentation about firstboot
This is not true, see below. Additionally, it should be documented in SLE documenation, but I do not know where to look for it. If it is not there, I'd say documentation team should fix it. I do not know who to ask: Jakub?
- how do I need to activate firstboot ?
install yast2-firstboot and touch /var/lib/YaST/reconfig_system
- where can I point users to docs ?
1. http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/Modules/Firstboot 2. /usr/share/doc/packages/yast2-firstboot of installed yast2-firstboot package 3. SLE-related documentation, if there's any
- would it be better to remove that feature ?
Which feature - firstboot? It is definitely used. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

kiwi has done the "touch /var/lib/YaST2/reconfig_system" part (it's still there in my dd'ed oem image), nevertheless firstboot isn't started on first boot. There's no y2log file in /var/log/YaST2/
/var/lib/YaST2/reconfig_system should be enough, and yast2-firstboot must be installed If it does not run, there might be a problem with start script that should start YaST when reconfig_system file is found. It is checked in /etc/init.d/boot, so maybe someone is replacing it?
BTW, I have found SLED 11 docs on firstboot: http://www.novell.com/documentation/sled11/sled11_deployment/?page=/document...
Nice, so this is the offical part. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

so all this looks good to me. The activation code is correct imho Jiri can you take a look at /usr/share/kiwi/modules/KIWIConfigure.pm setupFirstBootYaST()
Well, I do not know in which context is this function called, but it looks like it is creating /var/lib/YaST2/reconfig_system file and this is correct. As I wrote before: 1. /var/lib/YaST2/reconfig_system must be present 2. yast2-firstboot package must be installed 3. boot script must care of starting YaST. This is done in our default /etc/init.d/boot: if test -f /var/lib/YaST2/reconfig_system ; then HOSTTYPE=$(uname -m) splashtrigger "YaST" exec 0<> $REDIRECT 1>&0 2>&0 if test -x /usr/lib/YaST2/startup/YaST2.Firstboot; then /usr/lib/YaST2/startup/YaST2.Firstboot else # oops, yast2-firstboot not installed rm -f /var/lib/YaST2/reconfig_system fi fi So, please test what are the conditions when you are booting the system. Is the default /etc/init.d/boot there or are you replacing by anything? Is /var/lib/YaST2/reconfig_system present at that time? Is correct version of yast2-firstboot installed (/usr/lib/YaST2/startup/YaST2.Firstboot is part of the package) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But that example file from comment 8 should be fixed, right?
I guess so. I haven't had any issues (yet?) with the default boot file. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
