[Bug 232436] New: "Repair" Installed System" not found
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232436 Summary: "Repair" Installed System" not found Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: 32bit OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: novell@skewray.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com My SuSE 10.1 system is completely trashed after an experiment with "yum". I want to run the "Repair Installed System" from YaST. So I tried: Following page 237 of the Start-Up manual that came with 10.1: 1) insert DVD 2) reboot system 3) stare at install mode screen, searching for "Repair Installed System". It isn't there. Either there is a problem with the install DVD (and CD), and someone left out "Repair Installed System", or the Start-Up manual needs to be re-written such that it describes the necessary steps required to find the "Repair Installed System" installation mode. The installation manual does not give even a hint that one has to proceed through several screens in order to get to the repair screen. I assumed that the "installation mode" choice was to be made on the very first boot screen, along with "no ACPI" etc. The documentation could use some improvement! Note that on the left side of the screenshot, the name of the current stage says "analyze system", and has nothing to do with the type of installation. It is completely misleading. In the end, it didn't help anyway. The repair function cannot recognize a RAID-0 root partition. It assumed that my small RH8 partition was root and preceeded to mangle it. I need some other way to do a repair... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

On the boot screen, you can write 'repair' as a boot parameter and repair system will be called directly. I hope this is described in manual. 2. You can switch to help on the left side of the dialog instead of the tree view of installation steps. I hope the help text mentions the repair system than. 3. Klara, please check if 10.2 manual covers correctly the information that repair can be called from that dialog. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

In the English version is nothing about repair system on the page 237 :-(. The start of the repair system is described in the chapter 1.5 System Analysis. Only procedures in chapter 13. in 10.1 Start-Up are misty because they link to whole chapter 1. without detailed info. This problem is fixed in the documentation for openSUSE 10.2. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

My page 237 has "Using YaST System Repair" and "Automatic Repair". 1.5 System Analysis only says that "Repair installed system" can be done, and refers directly to page 237 for details. If your manual isn't the same, then there are two! I find no mention anywhere of typing "repair" into the boot menu. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The online version http://www.novell.com/documentation/suse101/pdfdoc/suse_101_start_up/suse_10... is updated. But in both is the same text in the section 9.6.3. This problem is fixed for 10.2, see http://www.novell.com/documentation/opensuse102/. You can use the 10.2 text for 10.1 too. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

However, both page 189 and page 191 have a reference to 'Installation with YaST (page 3)'. The actual page is page 13, not page 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
