For this problem, the error message should not happen so easy because the checksum is just first written to the device, then read it out and do a comparison. And we can't reproduce this problem with the default configuration in Opensuse13.1, except setting two metadata copies when the device exceeds 4G. So, could you first test if this could be reproduced when setting use_lvmetad = 0?
