If no xmms2 plugin for restricted format is installed, you won't be able to add any mp3 to playlist. ogg files should work though. So try to install xmms2-plugin-restricted:

sudo zypper in xmms2-plugin-restricted

Don't forget to kill the xmms2 daemon before restarting lxmusic:

killall xmms2d

You can also control xmms2 from command line with:

xmms2 ls # list files in playlist xmms2 clear # remove files from playlist xmms2 add ~/Music/*.mp3 # add mp3 files from the Music folder to playlist xmms2 play|pause|next|stop # basic controls
