[Bug 599519] New: booting a paravitualized opensuse11.2 which was updated by zypper dup fails

From the point of view of Xen the machine is started: # xm create tu2 -c Using config file "./tu2". Copy kernel /boot/vmlinuz-xen from sda to /var/lib/xen/tmp/kernel.Ro-Rj3 for booting started domain tu2
The update procedure works fine for opensuse11.0 -> opensuse11.1 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Udate an opensuse11.0 paravirtualized machine according to http://en.opensuse.org/Upgrade/Supported to opensuse 11.2 2. reboot the machine from Xen dom0 ( xm shutdown; xm create ) Actual Results: The machine hangs during boot at udev. Last printed line: [ 0.719942] udev: starting version 146 Then nothing happens. I waited 30 minutes. Xen thinks the machine is running (xm list) Expected Results: booting At an opensuse 11.1 xen host its the same. Seems the 11.2 is the problem. The virtual machine resides in logical volumes without partition inside. The paravirtualized opensuse 11.0 was originally installed by yast into a file and then copied to a logical volume. The initrd was rebuilt in a chroot environment to boot from /dev/sda: mkinitrd -d /dev/sda -k vmlinuz-xen -i initrd-xen A opensuse 11.2 installed by yast from a DVD can be copied to a logical volume too, but has to boot with xvda1 and xvdb (swap). The former /dev/sda and /dev/sdb do not work. But changing the zypper dup - updated opensuse11.2 to /dev/xvda and /dev/xvdb didn't help (same problem as above). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #2 from James Fehlig
Does the upgrade work when using 11.2 DVD or network boot image?
Ping? Have you tried either of these? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
