It was in KDE for ages, so I don't understand why you suggest that all of the sudden it is user job to reinvent the wheel. So I am not saying there should be something fancy -- but error should differ from information. All KDE apps magically can do this, KUA cannot do this, great. But the problem is, when KUA shows a bunch of popups it would be really good to have some distinction -- informations are not that important as errors. And now when I work for example in KMail as soon I see popups I have to read them all carefully because I don't want to miss errors. So, your intention was not to distract the user, but in effect you are doing worse -- because user is distracted anyway but now user has to spend more time dealing with popups. I am not saying the dialog boxes would be solution, no, but providing distinctions for notifications -- icon could be a good start.
