[Bug 393569] New: shutdown option should accompany stop and reboot when initial package installation completes
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=393569 Summary: shutdown option should accompany stop and reboot when initial package installation completes Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Factory Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mrmazda@ij.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- First boot is a natural stopping point during a fairly lengthy process. People ought to be able to avail themselves of this natural stopping point when personal circumstances dictate it better or necessary to stop than immediately proceed. I commonly install from HTTP late in the evening when closest servers seem less heavily loaded and my brain is tired and about ready for bed. A better time for first boot is when my brain is fresh first thing in the AM. The way installation works now, my choices are: 1-let the machine run idle all night, wasting energy waiting for me to get my sleep, before answering first boot questions with a fresh brain 2-make mistakes answering first boot questions I'm too tired to answer, delay getting to bed, then shut it down 3-watch the display carefully as first boot approaches, pull the power cable plug at an opportune time, then plug back in and start after sleeping 1 is ecologically negative. 2 is logically negative. 3 doesn't work well. Unlike a normal reboot, first reboot skips both POST and the pre-existing boot manager, making it hard to tell when to pull the plug. In the 3 11.0b3 installs I did recently, starting after pulling the plug did not give me YaST system configuration screens prior to KDM, forcing me to run sax2, disable SuSEfirewall & network manager, tweak services, etc. manually. The reboot popup that allows to stop before reboot should also have a button to turn off computer. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
