http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=520516 Summary: The search for software really needs some enhancement Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Software Portal AssignedTo: benji@opensuse.org ReportedBy: siegfried.olschner@novell.com QAContact: opensuse-communityscreening@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060200 SUSE/3.0.11-0.1.1 Firefox/3.0.11 Lower the border for beginners at http://software.opensuse.org/search Example 1: Search for the new Firefox 3.5 Only an expert will find it, no chance for openSUSE beginners The search phrase "Firefox 3.5" shows 0 search results The search phrase "Firefox" displays 0 collections and 154 binaries from 67 source packages on seven dialog pages. A openSUSE beginner will not know that the last item at the first search results page is perhaps the correct selection. A detail question here is also: does it provide only the branding or is it a complete Firefox? MozillaFirefox-branding-openSUSE mozilla/openSUSE_11.1 This package provides openSUSE Look and Feel for MozillaFirefox. Example 2: Search for "OpenOffice" no chance for openSUSE beginners, there is no real "one-click" installation visible in the dialog 0 collections and 1110 binaries from 731 source packages on 74 pages where the first pages do not show the main packages. Example 3: A bad search engine in the background :( can someone try to reproduce this? "koffice" 0 collections and 54 binaries from 0 source packages Nothing found BUT "Koffice" <= with capital "K" 0 collections and 407 binaries from 321 source packages Permanent link to this result on 33 pages ------------- Good example = Search for "gimp" It offers 1 collections and 311 binaries from 181 source packages on 19 pages The first link is the software collection with understandable text The_GIMP_2.4 [Software collection] GNOME:Community/openSUSE_11.1 Installs the latest stable version of The GIMP.
