When I select knwm4 wlan create connection, I get a list of the ap's I have already connected to and the ap's in the area. When I select the new ap that I need to connect to, the dialog brings up and existing ap from my list to be modified. If I modify that entry, then I have to log out and log back in to get that ap to show in the list and be able to connect to it.
