It will now accept the resolution the user selected even if it wasn't detected (it will set the PreferredMode just as SaX does). Could you please retry with beta5 and attatch the logs[1] again, that would be great. And as you are on it, please attach the output of "hwinfo --monitor" while you are in runlevel 3. Then we could add this display to our monitor database. Probably no xorg.conf at all. The driver has other means to detect monitor than SaX2/hwinfo has.
