[Bug 340518] New: cannot add a non-local user to a local user group via YaST
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=340518 Summary: cannot add a non-local user to a local user group via YaST Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jdluhos@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- When users are read from a remote source (e.g. LDAP), they do not appear in the menu in the Yast Group Management module; therefore they cannot be added to a group with this tool. For example, when I'm a nonlocal user, I cannot add myself into local group "cdrom". A solution would be to allow adding users which are not in the menu, by naming them. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

However, I must say it is quite unintuitive;
Is it? Well, you can set yast2-users module to read LDAP stuff by default, just use "Customize Filter..." part in Set Filter menu.
after selecting LDAP Groups, an administrator password to the LDAP server is requested, and the user must notice that there is also an 'Anonymous access' button;
What would you expect? Logging anonymously by default? Every possible action that could be done in UI must be noticed by user before, where's the point?
furthermore, after doing this, nothing special happens (it shows an empty list on my machine),
What would you expect when there's only 'users' LDAP group? Or is it really empty?
then it is needed to return back to the local group menu
It is needed every time you want to edit local group.
which suddenly shows more users.
Logical, isn't it? It could show them only when it knows about them. Again, this is caused by the fact that LDAP users/groups are not read by default.
It's a bit like an adventure game :-)
"Remember to have fun!" :-) But, seriously - do you have a better solution? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
