[Bug 779137] New: provide in-compiled debuginfo for Xorg.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=779137 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=779137#c0 Summary: provide in-compiled debuginfo for Xorg. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: estellnb@elstel.org QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1 Please ship the Xorg-executable with in-compiled debuginfo or install the debuginfo package by default from DVD. Errors with Xorg are very common but however often not reproducible (Sometimes Xorg crashes only by displaying a backtrace which does not go into the log.). The little more space this will require is hardly worth talking about. For these cases in-compiled debuginfo would be the method of choice. All other components already ship with debuginfo by default (radeon-driver etc.). Reproducible: Always -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Xorg crashes are not common Well, that may depend on your setup and the graphics driver in use.
installing debuginfos won't make them any less seldom Certainly, yes. A lot of Xorg errors are non-reproducible; i.e. they only occur scarcely; f.i. due to race conditions or because the sequence of protocol requests will never be the same. Most users don`t install debuginfo in advance because everyone hopes that Xorg will run without errors. Nobody installs debuginfo with hindsight in order to wait for the next error which may or may not come its way. That way a lot of bugs will stay undiscovered; reporting them would clearly improve the stability of Xorg.
