Usually Thunar should be started in daemon mode by the session. Could you check if that is the case, ie. run "ps -ef | grep -i thunar" directly after login? Output from "ps -ef | grep -i thunar" is vvoss 2943 2845 0 20:09 pts/2 00:00:00 grep -i thunar It seems that Thunar has not been started in daemon mode.

If it isn't started by the session it will be started through DBus-activation and I guess the DBus timeout is 30 seconds which is why you'll see the above error when Thunar startup takes longer.

Currently I do not have a error message after the first start of thunar. There is just a delay of 12-13 sec for thunar to show up first time. I currently have this delay even if i have started thunar in demon mode with "thunar --daemon &" first.

OK, the real problem here is Thunar taking a very long time to start up, that looks like https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7373

If I start thunar in daemon mode and click on desktop icon there is an error message in the terminal screen: Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve property `GtkTreeView::odd-row-color' of type `GdkColor' from rc file value "((GString*) 0x8311360)" of type `GString'

You can ignore that, it has nothing to do with this problem and is harmless.

Since the network connection from the notebook is currently using a different model of a DSL router, I do not know if the reported error is somehow network related or the error message has been all ready fixed with an update. I will check this next Sunday with the other DSL router. There for I do not remove status NEEDINFO.

The deinstallation and reinstallation of the thunar package from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/gberh:/branches:/X11:/xfce/o... has no effect. I still have this long delay and the error message.

The repository from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/gberh:/branches:/X11:/xfce/o... seems to be empty. There are no i586 or noarch subdirectories visible below this url.
