There is a floppy device in the log from comment #1: 4: udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_floppy_0_storage' This device provides already a floppy device with all mount/umount methodes you need to mount the device. You may only need to give the correct fstype to the mount call (fat32/vfat). I don't see why this should not work. There is no need for a extra volume and as I already wrote in comment #4 there is no way to detect if a media is in the device without the high risk to destroy the device because of polling. Btw. I found this while working on bug 211857 and just thought I would mention it in case they are related. Sorry I thought that no access to a device would be major since there is no workaround and is critical in some application. I use VMWARE and Parallels and the guests systems require floppy access. I also have software keys on floppy required for some things. In Suse 10 I had trouble with the floppy and had to change my fstab. I have checked to see if the floppy drive is working and it is, I can boot from it. When I get into oS 10.3 the floppy isn't mounted. Differences: - <match key="storage.media_check_enabled" bool="true"> instead of "false". USB-Floppies seem to have this enabled, as well as USB-Zip-Drives. - <append key="storage.disable_volume_handling" type="string">true</append> is required to avoid unexpected behavior with disks formatted with winXP or mformat. As I said, I've only tested this with USB-Floppies. So I don't know if might be also necessary on build-in floppies. Btw: I don't expect you to add this stuff to your hal. It didn't work for two years, now. Bugreports were always closed with "this must be a bug in KDE" or "it works now". So I don't expect you to fix this anymore. I will do it by myself. :-( PS: I forgot to tell you: the mediamanager-patch also fixes a memleak. The only problem is KDE which react on the device and try to mount it, also if there is no Mount() method assigned to the device. As next you get a event for the floppy media/volume and you be able to mount/umount/eject it, the volume get removed if you remove the device or/and the media. The other case where you add the USB floppy device with a already inserted media (which you IMO should not do, but doesn't matter) to the computer. Again the KDE problem with the device it self (which should be ignored on USB floppy devices), but no event for the media/floppy. I fixed this in the hal storage-addon. This works now also. (hal testpackages for 10.3/factory: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dkukawka/). This should be in the next YOU update. Btw. there is no need to add the storage methodes via a fdi file (as you do) to the device itself. This is simply wrong for USB media devices.
