[Bug 485808] New: X11 sometimes freezes for a variable number of seconds (usually 30-40) after closing windows
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=485808 Summary: X11 sometimes freezes for a variable number of seconds (usually 30-40) after closing windows Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: gatoatigrado@myrealbox.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009022800 SUSE/3.0.7-1.1.6 Firefox/3.0.7 X11 sometimes freezes for a variable number of seconds after closing windows; see steps to reproduce and actual results. I don't think this is a kernel freeze. If audio is playing (I use Amarok), it will continue to play until it reaches the end of the track (perhaps some X11 call is made, e.g. for the on-screen-display, when switching tracks). I also executed `while sleep 1; do date +%s >> timelog; done` and it all seconds seemed intact. No messages were output to either /var/log/messages or /var/log/Xorg.0.log or /var/log/Xorg.99.log. I am running this on my desktop, which has an up-to-date version of 11.1, with nVidia's 180.29 driver. The crash also occurs on my laptop, which iirc has an Intel GMA 950 chipset. Both do use an crypto mount for /home, though the disk isn't busy when the freezes occur, and the filesystem is usually plenty fast. Both have dotfiles which were created in prior versions of OpenSUSE, though the only dotfiles I have explicitly transferred between the two were Kile settings. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Close windows. Some applications, e.g. kwrite, rarely freeze, whereas others, such as Firefox, freeze sporadically. konsole freezes often, and kate -- when I'm using my default 3-window session, almost always freezes. Actual Results: The freezes are of varying length: sometimes as short as 20 seconds, usually around 30-40, and I'm sure they've exceeded a minute (a few random measurements: 51, 27, 25). I'd like to help getting more useful debug information. I set the shortcuts by right-clicking the top left icon, going to "advanced settings", then "window specific", the "preferences", then "keyboard shortcut", with option "remember" and "edit", "single shortcut". With "remember", the window must be reopened before it can take effect.
Sorry, can't find this. Maybe our KDE guys can explain it better. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
