[Bug 433683] New: opensuseupdater-kde fails silently on zypper errors
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=433683 Summary: opensuseupdater-kde fails silently on zypper errors Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE3 AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: myrosia@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I run opensuseupdater-kde on 11.0 with KDE 3.5.9. If there are any errors, such as unsatisfied dependencies, the update fails silently - the updater does not produce any messages warning of the failure. This creates a very confusing situation: the updater tells me that there are updates available; I select all the patches/updates; the kdesu asks for password; 2 minutes later the applet is back to checking for available updates, and tells me again about the same set of updates to be installed. I can repeat this cycle many times, without being able to install a single patch. Running online update from YaST shows the trouble with dependencies, and allows for fixing the issue. However, this workaround seems to be available only with patches, but not with "updates" tab. At a minimum, the updater should tell the user that an error has occurred and they should run online update from YaST to fix it, or showing what the errors are Better yet, the updater should give the user the option to resolve conflicts in case of errors. For example, this is currently the zypper command run by opensuse-updater which fails silently, and the error message I get when running it manually. zypper -x --non-interactive in -l -t package --name amarok amarok-libvisual amarok-yauap amrnb amrwb asc BASS boswars brasero bundle-lang-gnome-ca busybox bzflag compat compat-readline4 convmv Crystalcursors dejavu digikam-doc djvulibre dmapi dosbootdisk ecj-bootstrap ElectricFence emacs-auctex emacs-w3 evms-gui evolution-galago faac faad2 fastjar ffmpeg fftw3 flphoto fluidsynth FooBillard FOTAQ ftgl gaim-galago gaim-galago-lang gdk-pixbuf-gnome ghostscript-ijs-devel gl-117 glest-data gnome-blog gnome-blog-lang gnome-mime-data gnome-netstatus gnome-netstatus-lang gnome-presence-applet gnome-presence-applet-lang gnuserv gok gok-lang goom2k4 gstreamer-0_10 gstreamer-0_10-plugins-base gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good i4lfirm isapnp jack java_cup jlex joy2key k3b k3b-codecs kaffeine kdeartwork3-sound kdemultimedia3 kdemultimedia3-arts kdemultimedia3-CD kdemultimedia3-jukebox kdemultimedia3-mixer kdemultimedia3-sound kdesdk3-devel khunphan kshutdown ktorrent lame libakode libakode-devel libavc1394 libdc1394 libdc1394_control12 libdca0 libdv libdvdcss libdvdnav libfaac0 libffmpeg0 libfluidsynth1 libgalago-gtk libghttp libgpod3 libgpod-tools libgstinterfaces-0_10-0 libgstreamer-0_10-0 libiso9660-5 libmcs libmtp6 libmtp7 libmtp-tools libnetpbm-devel libraptor1 libraptor-devel libraw1394 libsap libsidplay libsigc++12 libspeex libtunepimp5 libtunepimp5-mad libtunepimp5-mp4 libwavpack1 libxml liferea lincity lincity-ng ltxml lua lyx marbles memprof memprof-lang metacity-themes mjpegtools MozillaFirefox MozillaFirefox-translations mozilla-nss MozillaSunbird MozillaThunderbird MozillaThunderbird-translations mozilla-xulrunner181 mozilla-xulrunner190 mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs mozilla-xulrunner190-translations multisync multisync-backup multisync-evolution multisync-irmc multisync-irmc-bluetooth multisync-opie multisync-syncml neverball ntfs-config OpenOffice_org OpenOffice_org-base OpenOffice_org-calc OpenOffice_org-draw OpenOffice_org-en-GB OpenOffice_org-filters OpenOffice_org-gnome OpenOffice_org-hyphen OpenOffice_org-icon-themes OpenOffice_org-impress OpenOffice_org-kde OpenOffice_org-mailmerge OpenOffice_org-math OpenOffice_org-pyuno OpenOffice_org-Quickstarter OpenOffice_org-templates-en OpenOffice_org-templates-presentation-layouts OpenOffice_org-thesaurus-bg OpenOffice_org-thesaurus-fr OpenOffice_org-thesaurus-sk OpenOffice_org-writer opt_gnome-compat pachi pam_chroot pam_mktemp pam_passwdqc pam_userpass pdksh plib portaudio python-gdata qamix rekall rekall-xbase rxp scpm-devel SDL_gfx seamonkey seamonkey-mail seamonkey-spellchecker sitar speex spicctrl sqlite2-devel squaroid src_vipa stardict stardict-tools stratagus syslogd taskjuggler taskjuggler-kde testgart torcs torcs-data trackballs tree vcdimager wbxml2 wesnoth x11-input-gunze x264 xalan-j2-javadoc xalan-j2-manual xalan-j2-xsltc xbanner xbase xbsql xchat Xerces-c xerces-j2-javadoc-apis xerces-j2-javadoc-dom3 xerces-j2-javadoc-impl xerces-j2-javadoc-other xerces-j2-javadoc-xni xmahjong xmoto xsane xscrabble xsupplicant yast2-update-FACTORY yudit ziptool <?xml version='1.0'?> <stream> <message type="info">Reading installed packages...</message> <message type="info">2 Problems:</message> <message type="info">Problem: libffmpeg0-0.4.9.15554svn-20081004.pm.2140.i686 requires libavcodec52 = 0.4.9.15554svn-20081004.pm.2140, but this requirement cannot be provided</message> <message type="info">Problem: kaffeine-0.8.7-0.pm.1.i686 requires libxine1 >= 1.1.12, but this requirement cannot be provided</message> <prompt id="1"> <description>Problem: libffmpeg0-0.4.9.15554svn-20081004.pm.2140.i686 requires libavcodec52 = 0.4.9.15554svn-20081004.pm.2140, but this requirement cannot be provided uninstallable providers: libavcodec52-0.4.9.15554svn-20081004.pm.2140.i586[Packman_Repository] libavcodec52-0.4.9.15554svn-20081004.pm.2140.i686[Packman_Repository] Solution 1: Following actions will be done: do not install libffmpeg0-0.4.9.15554svn-20081004.pm.2140.i686 do not install ffmpeg-0.4.9.15554svn-20081004.pm.2140.i686 Solution 2: replacement of liboil-0.3.14-18.1.i586 with liboil-0_3-0-0.3.15-0.pm.2.i586 Solution 3: Ignore some dependencies of libffmpeg0 </description> <text>Choose from above solutions by number or skip, retry or cancel</text> <option value="1" desc=""/> <option value="2" desc=""/> <option value="3" desc=""/> <option value="s" desc=""/> <option value="r" desc=""/> <option default="1" value="c" desc=""/> </prompt> </stream> -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
