[Bug 655202] New: primary sound card in HP ProBook 6555b not selected
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=655202 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=655202#c0 Summary: primary sound card in HP ProBook 6555b not selected Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: ohering@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Outsourced Testing Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=401497) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=401497) bug-probook_6555b.tar.bz2 The primary soundcard on a HP ProBook 6555b is the HD Audio, but yast shows a second one (SB something) during installation. Playing the testsound only works if the HD Audio is first selected as the primary one. Also, the console beep is shown at volume 0 in yast during second stage of the install. But there is still that annoying beep in xterm. It stops after setting Beep to mute in alsamixer. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Um, Yast found 2 sound cards, that's OK:

Olaf, if I understand it correctly the problem is that YaST configures a wrong card as the primary card, isn't it? Well, I'm not sure if YaST can do much about that... (The only way would be to add a special check for this particular laptop...)
Hmm, strange. From yast log, snd-card-0 "SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)" is the onboard audio while snd-card-1 "ATI Technologies Inc" is the HDMI codec. So, this looks correct. Isn't it the result after the manual card selection?
To the Beep problem: again, I'm not sure if YaST should mute the Beep channel by default. Maybe other people expect that behavior? Takashi?
I guess you can mute the beep as default. The beep is anyway emulated via PCM on desktop systems, and the system beep is rather annoying nowadays. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I once installed 11.3 on the original hard drive, see bug #627288 Sound did not work properly, during second stage install, in skype and general. I dont remember what I did to get sound working, running alsamixer was not enough. Maybe I used yast to reconfigure sound. Now I remembered that issue and tried the other sound card in the list. This time the testsound in second stage install worked. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
