yast-using-efont-biwidth-for-chinese.png
A similar screenshot for the case when Chinese was selected in
linuxrc. Problems seen in this screen shot:
1) The bitmap font used (“Efont Biwidth”) has Japanese style, not
Chinese style. This could be fixed by bringing back
the “Gnu Unifont” bitmap font (which has Chinese style) into
instsys. Nevertheless I think this is not a good fix
because of 2)
2) The Chinese characters are clipped in some places. For example,
at the left side of the screen shot, above the words “Welcome”
and “root” you can see Chinese characters where the lower half
is missing.
This would happen for Japanese as well, the screen shot
I attached here is 800x600 pixels, the screen shot I attached
for Japanese which didn’t show this clipping problem was
1024x768 pixels.
Most likely problem 2) will go away when TrueType fonts are used. So
far we observed such clipping problems with Qt only when bitmap fonts
were used.
Therefore, it is probably a better strategy to get rid of the
bitmap fonts altogether and make sure that the needed TrueType
fonts are made available somehow.
