[Bug 394331] New: Fresh installation of openSUSE 11.0 unbootable on Itanium
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=394331 Summary: Fresh installation of openSUSE 11.0 unbootable on Itanium Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Factory Platform: IA64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Booting AssignedTo: jsrain@novell.com ReportedBy: emeric.maschino@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- A fresh installation of the latest openSUSE 11.0 packages (dated May 22) available on the oss.sgi.com mirror was performed. At the end of the installation process, the elilo boot loader configuration cannot be created because of a permission problem (read-only /boot or /boot/efi filesystem?). The system can nevertheless be booted by manually running /boot/efi/SuSE/elilo.efi in the EFI console. The boot process however fails because of (at least) read-only /var filesystem. Sorry, I can't produce more precise logs at this time, since the system is unbootable and nothing is logged into /var/log because of the read-only /var filesystem problem. I'm available for additional information or testing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

* I've translated the error message from French, so the exact sentence in English may be different. In French, the exact message was "initialisation des paramètres '': Opération non permise". Today's update didn't solve the /var read-only problem. Furthermore, I've the impression that this is a more general permission problem as there are also errors due to /etc being read-only. At this time, the system is still unbootable. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
