[Bug 669932] New: nouveau video crash after resume from standby
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=669932 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=669932#c0 Summary: nouveau video crash after resume from standby Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Milestone 6 of 6 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: e-mail+novell@fabianmoser.at QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=412546) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=412546) "/var/log/messages | grep nouveau" for one boot-standby-fail-reboot sequence User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101206 Ubuntu/10.10 (maverick) Firefox/3.6.13 After a resume from standby, the screen is first white then within a second turns black and does not "awake" properly i.e. remains black. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot 2. Login 3. Choose standby from the menu or press standby button 4. Re-awake 5. White then black screen Actual Results: Black screen (Ctrl-Alt-Fn has no effect, although is probably a question of configuration) (Ctrl-Alt-Del reboots fine) Expected Results: Screen showing the desktop as before going to standby I'm using an HP 8440p with NVIDIA NVS 3100m graphics. I installed from the KDE live CD. The kernel mode setting works (nice!) already at install. KWin even uses effects, so DRM looks good (thanks!). I would love to use the release, but I need standby. I know nouveau doesn't want bug reports concerning the DRM driver, but I reckon, it might still be of interest for openSUSE as users might run into that problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That's wrong. Bug reports regarding the 3D driver are not accepted (when Mesa-nouveau3d package is installed): http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/GalliumHowto But also that statement is wrong: If you use daily snapshots (e.g. from home:jobermayr) and see that sth. worked yesterday with the 3D driver but does not with today's snapshot it is a regression which you are allowed to report and you should do it because it is very hard finding/bisecting the offending commit later ... But if you are not sure whether it worked at some state you are not allowed to report it ... Bug reports for the KMS driver are really wanted if you use latest git snapshot of nouveau/linux-2.6 (home:jobermayr offers it in package drm-nouveau) The best place for directly talking to nouveau developers is on IRC #nouveau. Btw. 'calim' there (who is responsible for some nv50/nvc0 parts) is also an Austrian guy. (I assume you are one because of your '.at' in email address ...) They are willing to help and guide you providing neccessary information. I assume you can read/understand this: http://de.opensuse.org/Nouveau -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

According to zypper, Mesa-nouveau3d is not installed. (In fact, I did nothing but updates after installing the Milestone 6 KDE Live CD.) I was fooled to believe the 3D driver was installed by the "desktop effects" that KDE showed (without any additional configuration). Actually, I never mentioned 3D, only DRM, which seemingly is used by the KMS driver too. The only (relevant) installed package is xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau.

OK, I will install your package of the KMS driver and see if the bug remains and if so, provide more/updated information directly to the nouveau developers. If useful, I can report back here as soon as something changes. Is this according to your suggestions? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
