[Bug 257337] New: Trying to config sleep in powermanager
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257337 Summary: Trying to config sleep in powermanager Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 2 Platform: 32bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jarl@yaeda.org QAContact: qa@suse.de As I get to the point in /etc/sysconfig/powermanager/sleep configuration file where I normally put SUSPEND2RAM_FORCE = yes I read that this is now deprecated. Edit /etc/pc/config instead. That is just fine, except this file does not exist. There are 3 folders config.d, sleep.d and power.d and they are all empty. How do SUSPEND2RAM_FORCE to yes then? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The comment in /etc/sysconfig/powermanager/sleep needs to be updated to reflect that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Is there no documentation on this? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257337 ------- Comment #3 from andreas.hanke@gmx-topmail.de 2007-03-25 02:01 MST ------- You have to create a file in the /etc/pm/config.d directory with any filename you like (the name does not matter, it just needs to be in /etc/pm/config.d), make it executable (maybe not necessary, I don't know) and then you can add your settings in the same format as it is demonstrated in /usr/lib/pm-utils/defaults. But don't edit /usr/lib/pm-utils/defaults itself; you can copy /usr/lib/pm-utils/defaults to, for example, /etc/pm/config.d/config and then edit /etc/pm/config.d/config. Instead if the old SUSPEND2RAM_FORCE = yes for powersave, you now need: S2RAM_OPTS="-f" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257337 ------- Comment #4 from jarl@yaeda.org 2007-03-26 01:24 MST ------- I have done that now, but it still does not sleep. If I try to force sleep via the KDE menu it tries to enter sleep, but returns to X. If I try to start kpowersave kpowersave crashes. Looks very much like ealier in 10.2 which got fixed at some point. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I know that :-) Just creating a file /etc/pm/config.d/config should work, put the variables in there. You can copy /usr/lib/pm-utils/defaults to /etc/pm/config.d/config and start from there. For the actual bug that the config file is not really used, can you please paste the output of "rpm -q --changelog pm-utils | head" here? I believe this should be fixed in the version that has this changelog entry (or later :-): * Fr Mär 16 2007 - seife@suse.de - update to current CVS - pm-utils-0.99.2-fix-stopservice.diff integrated upstream - fix the handling of config files in /etc/pm/config.d/ (they were simply ignored before) The version in alpha2 has not even moved to /usr/lib/pm-utils, so i'm assuming that you are running FACTORY, but i am not sure what the exact version in there is. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257337 ------- Comment #6 from jarl@yaeda.org 2007-03-26 08:26 MST ------- Could I help by updating the documentation? This could take that load of you!? Yes I do use factory. Is this not the right way to use the ALPHA version? Should I disable updating and just keep running on the clean ALPHA version? In that case I would have the same errors as others have reported even after they are fixed!? My output is here: * Tue Mar 20 2007 - seife@suse.de - update to curren CVS - module unloading and config handling fix integrated upstream - pm-utils-suse: be more careful selecting the kernel for resume (bug 256105) * Fri Mar 16 2007 - seife@suse.de - fix module unloading, pm-utils-0.99.2-fix-modunload.diff * Fri Mar 16 2007 - seife@suse.de -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257337 ------- Comment #7 from hmacht@novell.com 2007-03-26 08:34 MST ------- Just a note: I'm on the way to submit a new powersave package to the factory tree. So there's no need to update the documentation below /etc/sysconfig/powersave/ because /etc/sysconfig/powermanager/sleep won't be there anymore (end everything else regarding suspend) ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Could I help by updating the documentation? This could take that load of you!?
Yes, but i'm not sure how i want to handle it, maybe i will move http://en.opensuse.org/Pm-utils to .../Pm-utils-10_2 and create a new version for the "current" version (which should not change very much in the future, the 10.2 version was rather "alpha" :-)
Yes I do use factory. Is this not the right way to use the ALPHA version? Should I disable updating and just keep running on the clean ALPHA version?
No, that's perfectly fine, it is just that i was not sure if you were running an old version (i do not know exactly how often the internal repository is synced to factory), so i just wanted to make sure.
My output is here: * Tue Mar 20 2007 - seife@suse.de - update to curren CVS - module unloading and config handling fix integrated upstream - pm-utils-suse: be more careful selecting the kernel for resume ( bug 256105)
This one should be correct (it is the same one i am running :-). You can try (as root, from a terminal window) "pm-suspend", which bypasses all the kpowersave / HAL / kde menu stuff. If this works, we can investigate why the other methods fail. If this also fails, please attach your /etc/pm/config.d/config (note the config file must reside in the config.d subdirectory) and /var/log/pm-suspend.log
* Fri Mar 16 2007 - seife@suse.de - fix module unloading, pm-utils-0.99.2-fix-modunload.diff
* Fri Mar 16 2007 - seife@suse.de

KPowersave works in the sence that it makes the machine go to sleep, but trying to start it again just shows a black screen. I can CTRL+ALT+F2 and ctrl+alt+del. And it reboots, so the machine is not dead. But I cannot see the content when I switch to the console -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
