[Bug 232451] New: xdvi complains about undefined characters on omega files
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232451 Summary: xdvi complains about undefined characters on omega files Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 5 Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: auxsvr@yahoo.com QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com xdvi in openSUSE 10.2 doesn't open correctly omega files. It complains about missing characters and displays empty space in their position instead. I replaced the xdvi binary with one from suse 10 tetex rpm and the problem disappeared, even though both xdvis are the same version. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232451 ------- Comment #2 from auxsvr@yahoo.com 2007-01-09 08:03 MST ------- I noticed that you marked my bug report as resolved, whereas it isn't. oxdvi is a symbolic link to xdvi binary, which validates my bug report. Running the opensuse 10.2 version as xdvi (which I have been doing all along since SUSE 10) or oxdvi yields the same error message. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232451 ------- Comment #3 from werner@novell.com 2007-01-09 08:14 MST ------- xdvi is not a binary but a shell script. Do you have replaced xdvi-xaw3d.bin or the shell script only? And also do you have installed the pacakge te_omega? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232451 ------- Comment #5 from auxsvr@yahoo.com 2007-01-09 09:06 MST ------- I didn't make it clear, sorry. In all the above messages I was running the binary /usr/share/texmf/teTeX/bin/i586-linux/xdvi-xaw3d.bin. Running via the shell script or not doesn't change whether the error message appears. By the way, running through the shell script causes the fonts on the image environment to appear huge; running straight through the binary they appear normally. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232451 ------- Comment #10 from werner@novell.com 2007-01-09 10:32 MST ------- texfonts.map isn't usefull for omega fonts ... the problem seems to located at an otjher place. Try out to run strace -e open to see that some font are not loaded in the broken version. As there was no change in the teTeX source there could be two reasons for this behaviour ... problem at compile time (configure, compiler) or one of the patches done for teTeX (which is unlikly because the only change was tetex-src-3.0-t1lib.dif and the problem occurs even without). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232451 ------- Comment #18 from auxsvr@yahoo.com 2007-01-10 11:38 MST ------- I downloaded the file you mention, yet there are many problems with it and I can't compile it. Some packages don't exist (ghostscript-mini), some filenames are different (tetex-texmfsrc-3.0.tar.bz2) and a file is missing (tex/generic/hyphen/ushyph1.tex). https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232451 ------- Comment #19 from werner@novell.com 2007-01-11 05:26 MST ------- You do not need tetex-texmfsrc-3.0.tar.bz2 but tetex-texmf-3.0.tar.bz2 and tetex-src-3.0.tar.bz2, replace ghostscript-mini with ghostscript-library. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232451 ------- Comment #20 from auxsvr@yahoo.com 2007-01-11 07:04 MST ------- The file tetex-3.0-58.nosrc.rpm doesn't contain a tetex-texmf-3.0.tar.bz2 file, it does contain a tetex-texmfsrc-3.0.tar.bz2 file that is 54 MiB in size and a tetex-src-3.0.tar.bz2. I used rpmbuild -bb in order to build it. Maybe I need another src.rpm to build it? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=232451 ------- Comment #21 from werner@novell.com 2007-01-11 09:10 MST ------- Hmmm ... tetex-texmfsrc-3.0.tar.bz2 was used by Thomas to generate tetex-texmf-3.0.tar.bz2, therefore I've not included this into the rpm .... you can use the tetex and te_* rpm's to get a full /usr/share/texmf/ tree including the tex/generic/hyphen/ushyph1.tex or just download the tetex for next openSuSE release. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
