Ralf Bueker
Ralf Bueker, you set the "Platform" in this bug to "VMWare / openSUSE 12.1". Does this mean that you run openSUSE 12.1 as guest system in a VMWare host system? If yes, is it a full/hardware virtualization environment or a paravirtualized environment (also if it is only "a little bit" paravirtualized)?
it is paravirtualized on VMWare Workstation 8.0.4 The customer experienced the issue on a physical machine.
For some basic information about Disaster Recovery see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Disaster_Recovery
OK, read it. Actually tested it on SLES11SP1 (rear-1.7.23.1) on vmware, where everything works ok
Regarding what you can set in /etc/rear/local.conf see /usr/share/rear/conf/default.conf in particular BACKUP_PROG_INCLUDE=( ) to specify what to include in the backup if the automatism in rear does not result what you need.
looks much better with BACKUP_PROG_INCLUDE=( '\' ) ... This backs up all, as expected. It seem to behave different than in SLES11SP1 (rear-1.7.23.1), where BACKUP_PROG_INCLUDE=( ) backs up all.
Regarding the systemd error in the Rear recovery system: With only one line error message I don't know what actually goes wrong in the Rear recovery system. I have no experience with Rear and systemd because in SLE-HAE-11 we have no systemd.
Ralf Bueker, can you provide more context related to the systemd error?
Unfortunatly not. After typing in "rear" the error message appears 2 times and then nothing more.
I think that rear-1.10.0 (what we have in Archiving and in openSUSE 11.4 up to openSUSE 12.2 and openSUSE:Factory) does not provide any support for systemd because in rear-1.10.0.tar.gz I find no "systemd" at all.
In contrast I find "systemd" in rear-1.13.0-git201206261648.tar.gz in Archiving:Backup:Rear:Snapshot/rear
Therefore I think that rear-1.10.0 is insufficient for systems which use systemd and probably we should provide rear-1.13.0 for Archiving openSUSE 12.2 and openSUSE:Factory.

wouldn't it be better to have an up-to-date version of Rear in openSUSE:Factory and not an outdated one as it is currently?
I agree - we better have the latest snapshot version in here
If you agree this would mean either let "osc develproject openSUSE:Factory rear" point to the real develproject where an up-to-date version of Rear is (e.g. Archiving:Backup:Rear) or upgrade rear in its current develproject "Archiving" to an up-to-date version.
can you do something with http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Archiving:/Backup:/Rear:/Snapshot/... ?
Or is it intentionally that rear-1.10.0 is currently in openSUSE 11.4, openSUSE:12.1, openSUSE 12.2, openSUSE:Factory and Archiving?
no, the latest version is ure the best version to have in OpenSUSE:Factory Gratien -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What is the difference between the packages - rear in Archiving:Backup:Rear currently rear-1.13.0-git.20120523.tar.gz - rear in Archiving:Backup:Rear:Snapshot currently rear-1.13.0-git201207251536.tar.gz
Does Archiving:Backup:Rear contain the latest released Rear version and Archiving:Backup:Rear:Snapshot contains the latest snapshot?
Hum, I would suspect that under Archiving:Backup:Rear we keep the latest stable rear version ('till today rear-1.13.0) and Archiving:Backup:Rear:Snapshot contains the latest snapshot version. I wonder how 'rear-1.13.0-git.20120523.tar.gz' got into Archiving:Backup:Rear? We should put rear-1.13.0.tar.gz in there... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

systemd support in rear (since version 1.11.0 I believe) is only developed and tested within Fedora distributions so far. I will investigate to get systemd support added into version 1.14 for OpenSuse as well. Next week I'm still in holiday so limited time to do something (however can start with the preperation phase - getting OpenSuse 12.1 installed :)
OK - the latest snapshot of rear contains the needed modifications for systemd on OpenSUSE 12.1. If you could test it as well that would be very nice. Any feedback is welcome. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I could do it if you (i.e. someone who has appropriate permissions) make me a rear package maintainer in the Archiving:Backup:Rear project.
Then I would maintain the latest released Rear version in Archiving:Backup:Rear.
Johannes, is your account jsmeix ?
Additionally I would make Archiving:Backup:Rear the development project for rear in openSUSE:Factory so that the latest released Rear version which exists at openSUSE package freeze time would be automatically in each future openSUSE-X.Y release.
OK - seems fair.
Finally I would delete the outdated rear package in Archiving to clean up the rear packages in OBS.
Thanks.
In the end, you (i.e. the Rear authors) would maintain the snapshots in Archiving:Backup:Rear:Snapshot and I (preferably together with you) would maintain the latest release in Archiving:Backup:Rear.
Sounds fine. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think comment #11 asks for feedback from the reporter of the issue. Therefore I set needinfo to him.
Ralf Bueker, for testing if it works with the latest snapshot of rear, get the package rear from Archiving:Backup:Rear:Snapshot or - perhaps easier - use the "Snapshot releases from Git" via http://relax-and-recover.org/download/
Any tests performed yet? Please let us known so we can close the ticket (at https://github.com/rear/rear/issues/126 ) thanks, Gratien -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sorry for the delay, I was on vacation. Downloaded and installed rear-1.13.0-45.git201208022252.noarch.rpm Looks good.
