[Bug 299668] New: network installation prefers wlan over cabled network
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=299668 Summary: network installation prefers wlan over cabled network Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: snwint@novell.com ReportedBy: suse-beta@cboltz.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- I do a network installation with the following settings (in grub's menu.lst): title Installation HTTP root (hd0,4) kernel /boot/inst-linux vga=0x342 install=http://10.12.80.1/Factory/inst-source hostip=10.12.80.30 netmask=255.255.255.0 lang=de # brokenmodules=ata_piix initrd /boot/inst-initrd My laptop has two network devices: - a WLAN device which I use for internet connection - a wired ethernet device for my internal network 10.12.80.1 is my server where I have mirrored the Factory tree, connected via cabled ethernet. Now what happens is: - the cabled device is setup during boot (can be verified with "ifconfig" before linuxrc shows the wlan config dialog) - linuxrc detects that a WLAN card is availablem, un-configures the cabled ethernet device and then shows the "WLAN configuration" dialog - I click "Zurück" (back) [strange name, BTW] to cancel WLAN configuration - linuxrc tells me it will fall back to manual installation - I can continue, but have to confirm the network configuration in linuxrc again - YaST is put to manual installation mode and asks for every module it loads Expected behaviour: - If multiple network devices are found, there should be a dialog asking which one should be setup - or, better, but maybe more difficult: setup _all_ devices - however it would be unclear which device should use the network settings from boot commandline - YaST should not be put to manual installation mode -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Looks strange. You're sure you don't have some strange network config?
I don't think so ;-) - and, most important: there's nothing to configure in linuxrc (except boot paramters of course)
But lets wait how the logs look if you start with '?device=eth0'.
Here we are. Boot entry used: title Installation HTTP device=eth0 linuxrclog=/foo root (hd0,4) kernel /boot/inst-linux vga=0x342 install=http://10.12.80.1/Factory/inst-source?device=eth0 hostip=10.12.80.30 netmask=255.255.255.0 lang=de linuxrclog=/foo initrd /boot/inst-initrd In short: linuxrc didn't ask for the wlan configuration, but I was put to manual installation mode nevertheless. BTW: I could wget http://10.12.80.1/Factory/inst-source/content without problems on tty9 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
