[Bug 246745] New: IEC958 enabled on headphones jack on Macbook Pro
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=246745 Summary: IEC958 enabled on headphones jack on Macbook Pro Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: ma2412ma@hotmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de After installing openSUSE 10.2 on my Macbook Pro, I've noticed that a red light is shining out of the headphones output jack. I can disable it by opening KMix, going to the "Switches" tab and disabling IEC958. However, this should be the default, i.e. the red light should also be disabled during the boot process. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Try the following: - logout and login again on linux console (not KDE) - run "rcalsasound stop" as root - remove /etc/asound.state file (better make backup) - run "rcalsasound start" as root Then run alsamixer to check whether IEC958 is on. If it's off, the driver default is off, it means that someone else sets it on as default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I don't know what I've done, but I'm not able to enable that red light again. I tried the steps suggested by you, and the driver default is off. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Reopen if you see the problem repeatedly. The SPDIF support on STAC codec is still a bit mysterious and not well supported in the upstream yet. Anyway, the IEC958 switch must be off as default. Some apps like kmix may turn such switches on automatically at start up, though. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
