http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=559557 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=559557#c0 Summary: Can't deselect 3D-effects in simple-ccsm / gnome as user - as root it's ok Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: e-mail@fritz-biermann.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091103 SUSE/3.5.5-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.5 Graphics card Nvidia Geforce FX5200, Nvidia driver. Until last week I used openSUSE 11.0 because of problems with pulseaudio in 11.1. 3D-effects were off. When I installed 11.2, 3D was activated. As root I could opt out the checkbox in simple-ccsm from folder "applications". As user this was not possible: the application froze. I changed the rights for group "users" to "read and write" but this didn't help. By starting simple-ccsm - either as user or root - from the terminal, there was only a window without text or buttons and that program crashed as well. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Starting simple-ccsm 2.Clicking the checkbox - if visible 3.Waiting... Actual Results: As user, 3D-effects were still present. Expected Results: Nothing, if the mouse is moved in the right upper corner of the maximized window (= right upper corner of the screen). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Are you carrying your home directory unchanged from 11.0 ? If the answer to above two is YES, then there is a backwards compatibility problem and so you can probably [re]move the ~/.config/compiz and see if that solves your problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think that this is an advantage when upgrading to newer releases. I didn't try to create a new account but you gave me the hint: I compared "~/.config/compiz/" for root and my user account. The difference was an empty file "disable-compiz" for root. After I inserted such a file in my user directory and restarted the pc "Enable desktop effects" was opted out in simple-ccsm as well in my user account. But that program [or script ?] didn't react to any input and froze again. Access rights: root rw, group root r, others r. Anyway, the boring 3D effects are opted out. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
