[Bug 736098] New: openSUSE 12.1 Installation Refuses to Shrink an NTFS (Windows 7) Partition, but openSUSE 11.4 is OK with It
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=736098 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=736098#c0 Summary: openSUSE 12.1 Installation Refuses to Shrink an NTFS (Windows 7) Partition, but openSUSE 11.4 is OK with It Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rogers@isi.edu QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0 I bought a new PC with Windows 7 preinstalled. I wish to dual-boot the PC, sharing space on the same disk. To do this, I need to shrink WIndow's main NTFS partition. openSUSE 11.4 seems happy to perform this operation, but openSUSE 12.1 claims that there is a filesystem consistency problem and it cannot proceed with the request. openSUSE 12.1 pops up a little window that seems to show a complaint-free consistency check. I suspect that the format of the consistency check's response may have changed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Buy a new PC with Windows 7 preinstalled 2.Attempt to install openSUSE 12.1, shrinking the existing main NTFT partition first. 3. Actual Results: openSUSE 12.1 complains that the filesystem is inconsistent. Expected Results: openSUSE 12.1 should allow the operation,as openSUSE 11.4 does.
