I think it's quite interesting feature, although I'm not sure if there is any real benefit or usage for it now... To the package selection: I think it's quite useless to have touchpad or IRDA tools installed in a VBox VM instance (only if you enable direct HW access, but that's very unlikely and for advanced users who can install the packages manually...)
