[Bug 679106] New: valgrind aborts because of unknown SSE instructions
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679106 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679106#c0 Summary: valgrind aborts because of unknown SSE instructions Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Development AssignedTo: pth@novell.com ReportedBy: eike@sf-mail.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/4.6; Linux; de) KHTML/4.6.1 (like Gecko) SUSE When running some self-compiled program under valgrind I get errors like this: ==28762== valgrind: Unrecognised instruction at address 0x5547d33. ==28762== Your program just tried to execute an instruction that Valgrind ==28762== did not recognise. There are two possible reasons for this. ==28762== 1. Your program has a bug and erroneously jumped to a non-code ==28762== location. If you are running Memcheck and you just saw a ==28762== warning about a bad jump, it's probably your program's fault. ==28762== 2. The instruction is legitimate but Valgrind doesn't handle it, ==28762== i.e. it's Valgrind's fault. If you think this is the case or ==28762== you are not sure, please let us know and we'll try to fix it. ==28762== Either way, Valgrind will now raise a SIGILL signal which will ==28762== probably kill your program. ==28762== ==28762== Process terminating with default action of signal 4 (SIGILL) ==28762== Illegal opcode at address 0x5547D33 ==28762== at 0x5547D33: __m128i_strloadu_tolower_posix (in /lib64/libc-2.11.3.so) ==28762== by 0x5547F0F: __strcasestr_sse42 (in /lib64/libc-2.11.3.so) This is because of some SSE instructions are not supported in valgrind 3.6.0. I took the source RPM and recompiled it with 3.6.1 sources and now the errors are gone. So please provide the newer version in the distribution.
