[Bug 442242] New: Third party modules fail to load
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=442242 Summary: Third party modules fail to load Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta4 Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mhabersack@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I've had this issue happen with both the VirtualBox and VMWare modules. They compile fine, but loading them fails with the following message from the kernel: xxxxxx: no symbol version for struct_module I also caught a glimpse on google of this message for the truecrypt module. The kernel-sources were properly installed. It must be some configuration option in the kernel since when I recompiled my own kernel (using the openSuSE sources) with a custom set of options tuned for my machine (make defconfig followed by make menuconfig and a choice of own options), the modules compile and load fine. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Are you using the kernel-source package following the supplied README.SUSE? If not, please do. yes, I am using kernel-source, but I think there is a misunderstanding - the kernel I compiled works just fine, it's the 11.1b4 stock kernel which fails as described in the report.
