[Bug 676444] New: accessibility abuse: Gnome installer uses the same icons for abort and commit
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=676444 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=676444#c0 Summary: accessibility abuse: Gnome installer uses the same icons for abort and commit Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: RC 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Gnome-Live CD. Steps to reproduce: 1. run Live CD 2. select "installation" in grub menu 3. proceed with installation observing icons for aborting and committing actions In general, aborting icon is big red dot, while commit is big green dot. The only difference is color. Plain and simple, this is completely wrong. Different meaning = different icon, this means, color AND shape.
From usability POV this is just annoying, but from accessibility POV this is violation how software should be designed.

Polish (pl)? In installer? Default one, probably American English. > if you could post a screenshot, that would make my > life easier. ;-) Done :-) > By the way, what Gnome icon do we think would be the most appropriate? >From usability and accessibility POV it would be best to use: * for ALL (!) aborting, stopping, no-ing, etc. actions -- red "x" * for ALL (!) accepting, commiting, yes-ing, etc. actions -- green "v" The actual icon is not that important, the important is to use the same icon for the same meaning, and quite different icon for different meaning. If I may add: * using trash can or shredder for delete would be a plus * using non-hollow icons for next and back would also a plus -- now they look like a disabled My picks (quite conservative): * negating: http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/2.24/process-stop.png * accepting: http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/2.24/gtk-apply.png * neutral (closing): http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/2.24/gtk-ok.png * next item: http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/2.24/go-next-ltr.png * previous item: http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/2.24/go-previous-ltr.png * delete: http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/2.24/edit-delete.png The idea is to introduce as little icons as possible, yet enough to differentiate meaning. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
