[Bug 536299] New: xterm startup awfully slow in zh_CN.UTF-8 locale
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=536299 Summary: xterm startup awfully slow in zh_CN.UTF-8 locale Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ailin.nemui@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; zh-CN; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090730 SUSE/3.5.2-2.1 Firefox/3.5.2 opening xterm with a zh_CN.UTF-8 locale takes several seconds instead of the usual instant pop-up. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. set system language to chinese simplified zh_CN.UTF-8 2. open xterm 3. wait Actual Results: takes forever Expected Results: opens instantly This problem seems to be related to xterm searching for whatever fonts, however I'm unclear about the proper fix. This should work out of the box imo. Running a strace -ttt -T|grep writev shows where the time is spent: 06.062369 writev(3, [{"1\1\7\0\1\0\21\0", 8}, {"*-*-*-*-*-*-GBK-0", 17}, {"\0\0\0", 3}], 3) = 28 <0.000032> 07.999531 writev(3, [{"1\1\7\0\1\0\23\0", 8}, {"*-*-*-*-*-*-*-GBK-0", 19}, {"\0", 1}], 3) = 28 <0.000032> 10.235677 writev(3, [{"1\1\10\0\1\0\25\0", 8}, {"*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-GBK-0", 21}, {"\0\0\0", 3}], 3) = 32 <0.000032> .. A workaround is to remove the fs3 class from /usr/share/X11/locale/zh_CN.UTF-8/XLC_LOCALE, however that does not seem to be the right way to fix this? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
