[Bug 256804] New: No Standby by KPowersave after online-update
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=256804 Summary: No Standby by KPowersave after online-update Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: info@tristanhoffmann.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com After an online update of KPowersave I can't suspend my computer any more. It always says "The external Devices (USB/Firewire) couldn't be unmounted" (free translation from the German) - "Because: The name org.freedesktop.Hal was not provided by any .service files. Do you want to continue the suspend although?..." If I say "Continue suspend" or "Cancel suspend" KPowersave doesn't work any more (the icon gets somehow transparent) and if I click on it, I can just click "Quit", "Help" and "Start Yast2 - Powersave". I also think there's a translation problem in that online update because I installed my whole system in English (works in Yast, KDE, ...), but AFTER the update my KPowersave is in German! I think something went wrong in that update... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=256804 ------- Comment #1 from info@tristanhoffmann.de 2007-03-24 02:15 MST ------- I just want to add that I'm not using a laptop but a normal computer, because you changed the "Component" to "Mobile Devices". I also don't use external devices as said in the error description of KPowersave. The only USB device I use is a mouse. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=256804 ------- Comment #3 from info@tristanhoffmann.de 2007-03-24 14:46 MST ------- It seems like HAL is crashing when trying to enter standy with the (updated) KPowersave. It is running perfectly before doing it but afterwards it's "unused" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=256804 ------- Comment #4 from dkukawka@novell.com 2007-04-03 14:02 MST ------- Could you strace HAL? Do this as root user: * rchal stop * mkdir /tmp/hal_strace * strace --ff -s1024 -o /tmp/hal_strace/hal hald --daemon=yes --verbose=yes --use-syslog * wait until hal is running (check if lshal print something usefull) * call standby via KPowersave * if HAL crashed: tar -xjf /tmp/hal_strace.tar.bz2 /tmp/hal_strace * send me /tmp/hal_strace.tar.bz2 (if the file is bigger than 1 MByte) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I wondered why the strace-command didn't return (exit) after hald crashed (it crashed definitively, I checked it with rchal status and lshal), so I simply closed the Konsole window.
