I really remember it asking me to install this or that debug package in the past or actually triggering the installation of those missing debug parts.
You remember correctly ;-) The patch (it's openSUSE one, not upstream) for that feature, should be adjusted for the 4.11 rc1. And yes, last two backtraces look to point at the same crash. Though they are again different from the ones in comment 1 & 8. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

OK. Now we need to find why it crashes in the first place. (In reply to comment #24)
After the crash, Alt+F2 to get a command window, then entering "plasma-desktop" starts the desktop manually, and the system is stable. Yes. That makes debugging slightly harder. ;-)

Confirmed, deleting the two default launchers (Dolphin and Firefox) did correct the plasma desktop shell crashes on login. I put two icons back via Kickoff by navigating to the application, right clicking, then selecting "Add to Panel". No crash with those in place. The two launchers I removed looked more like running task bars - they were rectangles that filled the empty space on the task bar. The two launch buttons that I added back are small widgets. Yes, unfortunately, no change:-( If someone has will and time "to play", i've created a repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/sumski:/KDE:/Distro:/Factory... based on KDF, with Qt debug build (also removed all openSUSE patches), and kdelibs, kde-runtime and kde-workspace debugfull build, for potentially better backtrace...
I will do that tomorrow. Just wanted to mention that I installed openSUSE 12.3 32-bit ina VM today and switched the packages to KDF. Plasma crashes on login there as well. ASSERT: "asize <= aalloc" in file ../../include/QtCore/../../src/corelib/tools/qvector.h, line 474
Hm, now I'm confused: qvector.h, line 474 contains Q_ASSERT(asize <= aalloc); But asize IS <= aalloc in my backtrace: #0 QVector<int>::realloc (this=0xbfffe66c, asize=1, aalloc=2) at tools/qvector.h:474 So I think I set the breakpoint wrong, sorry. Will try again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I just installed openSUSE 13.1 Milestone 4, 32-bit, KDE 4.10.97. The plasma crash does not occur. I can't confirm this on current Factory unfortunately. After running "zypper dup" today, plasma still crashes on login. Are you sure you have those taskbar launchers which disappear after clicking on

As soon as I logged in, the plasma-desktop crashed . I pushed <Alt>+F2 & inputed "plasma-desktop", the plasma-desktop was recovered . I removed Dolphin & Firefox from the bottom panel . I logged out, & I relogged in .
Then the plasma-desktop did not crash !
Thanks !
Hi, I´m on 12.2 with KR411 and the same plasma desktop crash occured after the update from 4.10. I edited the plasma-desktop.desktop with no affect. Removing the two icons solved it. Created an attachment (id=550364) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=550364) [details] Backtrace after assert is triggered
Attached the output of "thread apply all bt full" after the assert is triggered.
Will try to find out what happens...
I really don't understand this backtrace... QVector is not even used in (lib)taskmanager, there's just QVector include in taskmanager.h , but can be dropped. Maybe to try that, as i have no idea yet... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yeah, me neither. I noticed that as well when looking at the backtrace after attaching it here.

Will try to build a package without that include and test. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Proposed fix from upstream report is at home:sumski:branches:KDE:Distro:Factory. That patch fixes the crash for me (even without the LANG=$LANG workaround).
And after installing the latest packages from KDF the crash is gone now as well in both of my 32bit VMs (12.3 and Factory). Actually, this patch fixes it for me: https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/KDE:Distro:Factory/kdebase4-wor... So, at least from my POV, the launchers should be put back to the default panel now, and this bug could be closed as FIXED... :-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks for the feedback :-) I didn't yet had the chance to test the patches, but i'll close the report now ;-) ..and bring back the launchers in our branding -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
