[Bug 179702] Latest HP laptops do not reach max cpufreq, might not update thermal, battery info or could get "bad firmware state" that even survives shutdown. Caused by probably wrong/unfinished ACPI BIOS/EC read/writes

Can you describe the problem a bit further (working at the beginning, breaking after some minutes/hours, only breaking after suspend to disk, ...). Please also have a look at dmesg whether you see an ACPI error like: "No context for object" or other ACPI warnings/errors.
Finally I got around to look at this again. The ACPI fan control fails from the beginning (without going thru suspend). I have seen the following ACPI warings in dmesg: ACPI: Transitioning device [C352] to D0 ACPI: Transitioning device [C352] to D0 ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [dffde9b4] 'on' ACPI: Transitioning device [C351] to D0 ACPI: Transitioning device [C351] to D0 ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [dffdea04] 'on' ACPI: Transitioning device [C350] to D0 ACPI: Transitioning device [C350] to D0 ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [dffdea54] 'on' (I will post the full output of 'dmesg | grep ACPI' as an attachment) The machine is an hp compaq nx6325 (Turion X2) I found no newer BIOS for this one. I am using the fixed hp kernel described in the bug.
