[Bug 411020] New: php5-mhash not updated from 5.2.5 to 5.2.6
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=411020 Summary: php5-mhash not updated from 5.2.5 to 5.2.6 Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: herbert@graeber-clan.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- PHP5 was updated from version 5.2.5 to 5.2.6 via online update. Unfortunately the package php5-mhash (and probably some other packages too) has not been updated. This makes some third party software (In my case ldap-account-manager) not working. The only workaround is a downgrade to the PHP 5.2.5 packages. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

To drop php5-mhash is an unfortunate decision.
not really.
I had a look in building it for packman myself to keep ldap-account-manager working. But I found out, that it is usually build as a subpackage of php5 itself, and it seems to be difficult to build it standalone.
I can place it in the server:php:extensions repository later
Is there a specific reason for dropping it?
Yes, libmhash is no longer mantained in upstream as well the PHP extension has been deprecated no longer mantained, replacement is php5-hash. In the context of openSUSE we have to give security support for two years and in the case of SLE, for 5 or more years, as you can possible understand, we cannot ship something that we know will not be "supportable" in the foreasable future, that will just cause too much pain.
Would be fine to have it available from FTP (and updated, of course), if place on DVD was the reason.
There is an ongoing process of cleanup of PHP modules both in upstream and in our products. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Packman usually doesn't build on top of BS repositories. But at least users of ldap-account-manager can avoid errors from the updater.

I will contact the developer of ldap-account-manager and give him the hint he should switch to the hash module.

So resolving this bug as WONTFIX would be OK. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

No, there **is** a bug now, php5-mhash module was released with openSUSE 11.0 despite it was dropped, now nothing obsoletes its, and upgrade of this particular module breaks :-( a packaging bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
