[Bug 362565] New: /etc/init.d/ vpdupdater error causes vpdupdater abnormal exit
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=362565 Summary: /etc/init.d/vpdupdater error causes vpdupdater abnormal exit Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: webbb@excite.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer Looks like this might be the underlying problem with Bug 308679. The same symptoms do not seem resolved for me with the latest patched suse 10.3 as of 2008/02/16. In /etc/init.d/vpdupdater, there is the following sequence: <<<SNIP>>> touch /var/lock/subsys/vpdupdater <<<SNIP>>> rm /var/locak/subsys/vpdupdater <<<SNIP>>> /var/locak ????? I don't know if this would fix the problem, but currently boot.msg shows this kind of info: <<<SNIP>>> Activating remaining swap-devices in /etc/fstab... doneMounting securityfs on /sys/kernel/security done Loading AppArmor module done Loading AppArmor profiles <notice>killproc: kill(1133,29) Creating /var/log/boot.msg doneSetting up the hardware clockdone udevd-event[2511]: run_program: '/usr/sbin/vpdupdate' abnormal exit udevd-event[2510]: run_program: '/usr/sbin/vpdupdate' abnormal exit udevd-event[2455]: run_program: '/usr/sbin/vpdupdate' abnormal exit udevd-event[2451]: run_program: '/usr/sbin/vpdupdate' abnormal exit udevd-event[2459]: run_program: '/usr/sbin/vpdupdate' abnormal exit Retry device configurationdone udevd-event[2552]: run_program: '/usr/sbin/vpdupdate' abnormal exit udevd-event[2553]: run_program: '/usr/sbin/vpdupdate' abnormal exit done Setting up hostname 'yahn'done <<<SNIP>>> and many many more of the same abnormal exit lines. They clutter up 'ps -ef' also after the system comes up, at least for some time. After the system comes up, as root user I see: yahn:/var/log # lsvpd Please run /usr/sbin/vpdupdate before running lsvpd. When I do the lsvpd, /var/log/messages says: Feb 16 15:40:05 yahn lsvpd[8643]: VpdDbEnv.VpdDbEnv( /var/lib/lsvpd/, db ): Must have read permission of /var/lib/lsvpd.
