[Bug 718178] New: PS/2 keyboard not being recognised at start-up, but unplugging/plugging later on works
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=718178 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=718178#c0 Summary: PS/2 keyboard not being recognised at start-up, but unplugging/plugging later on works Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: per@opensuse.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-GB; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100914 Firefox/3.6.10 Regression - with current Factory, my PS/2 keyboard is not being recognised on start-up. Later on, if then I unplug/plug, it is seen and then works fine. I have installed 11.4+updates on exactly the same hardware, here it works fine. (perhaps irrelevant, but it also works fine with WinXP). PS/2 is not made for hotplug, and in theory hotplugging could even damage your hardware - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS/2_connector#Hotplugging -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yeah, that is part of why this is a _serious_ issue. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Just works here with GNOME-i686-LiveCD on a Dell T3500 workstation I wonder what makes the difference. Did you have kernel 3.1.0-rc6 ? or is the bug 64bit only?
I have kernel 3.0.0.4-desktop 64-bit. I haven't tried a 32bit install. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I can reproduce the problem with kernel 3.1.0-1.2-desktop. i8042.reset or i8042.debug seems to help.
Is this still an issue with 3.1.9 or 3.2.9? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
