Even that you can change the corresponding settings anytime, this should not happen and klamav should detect an existing clamav installation. On one installation I installed both clamav and the databases from rpm and on another one just clamav and the databases were taken by freshclam. In both cases klamav didn't detect .cvd files already present on the system in /var/lib/clamav and downloaded them "freshly" into a subfolder of the user's home, called "/home/user/.klamav/database". First the system's default should be checked/used, users will just click&click and agree the defaults, so if you have 20 users, will have 20 copies of the updated databases. Anyway, I completely disagree having options in klamav to upgrade not only klamav, but clamav as well! User(s) would likely have no rights to replace any clamav components, as well as the databases. A few things: - as far as I know, klamav is a partial copy of clamav. therefore it might be wanted that it downloads its own clamav db rather than using the system one. Other than that, I don't have much knowledge about the application. Follow-up: As I just promised, last night contacted the Author of klamav and now I post his comments as an attachment for this bug to save place. In brief: the main part of my bugreport is a _feature_, introduced for normal users and needing no fix. The typo is seemingly a clear-cut situation, but the problem when not-exiting via system-tray will be very likely further checked up.
